L&D Trends

This presentation shortlists 7 L&D trends as shared by Chad Outten at our recent L&D Networking Event. These are a collection of key observations, through the lens of a learning and development professional, working closely with organisations, reading literature, tinkering with technology and attending conferences during the past decade.

Administration

The LMS administrator is responsible for settings that impact all users, courses and data. Proper configuration helps ensure a secure, stable and optimised environment.

Assessment

Online course activities such as assignments can be graded using rubrics, scales and feedback. Assessment data is pushed to the course grade book and learner progress can be tracked toward activity and course completion. These processes help educators measure the achievement of learning outcomes.

Quizzes

The quiz activity is suitable for revision or formal assessment purposes in an online course. Questions can be quickly built and set. Best of all, learner responses are automatically graded and pre-determined feedback is displayed as appropriate.

Forums

Discussion forums should be part of the staple diet for every online course. They promote collaboration and interactivity as participants exchange ideas, ask questions, get answers and work together. Forums are flexible, fun and easy to use.

File sharing and multimedia

Uploading files such as documents, presentations and spreadsheets to your online course helps promote information sharing. Adding multimedia such as images, audio and video can further enhance learner engagement and participation. This presentation covers uploading files, creating web pages and adding documents and multimedia.
