Moodle 3.1

After a great deal of collaboration within the community, including developers, partners, testers and documenters, HQ recently announced Moodle 3.1.

It’s become ‘par for the course’ whenever Moodle produces a stellar major release. And this release continues that trend. As expected, there’s a bunch of new features and hundreds of fixes and enhancements. Best of all, this particular version comes with core bug and security support, for 1 and 3 years, respectively.

One of the key attractions of open source software, such as Moodle, is the ability for the user community to contribute ideas which directly help improve the software.

This is evidenced in the Moodle 3.1 release, whereby numerous user-requested features have been included, namely:

  • Competency Based Education
  • smoother assignment grading
  • easier retrieval of deleted files
  • improved tagging and course editing
  • greater usability for students and enhancements to several activities such as forum, workshop and lesson
